TAMPA BAY – InsideOut Sports + Entertainment announced that Michael Chang will replace Jimmy Connors in the Champions Challenge in Tampa after Connors was forced to withdraw due to a hip injury. Chang will now compete against John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander in the PowerShares Series tournament at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on November 9th at 7:30pm.
Formerly known as the Champions Series, the PowerShares Series will visit a total of 12 U.S. cities during its seven-week season, starting October 13 in Surprise, AZ and concluding November 30 in Anaheim, CA.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to compete in Tampa against this star studded lineup,” said Michael Chang. “I wish Jimmy all the best in a speedy recovery and look forward to going up against him next year in the PowerShares Series.”
“I am very disappointed that I cannot return to the PowerShares Series later this year,” said Jimmy Connors. “I had such a great time last year and was really looking forward to playing with all the guys again. Unfortunately, my hip prohibits me from doing so and I will be out of tennis through the end of 2012. BUT THEN I’M BACK and so looking forward to be part of the future”.
